Updated Catholic Schools Week Schedule

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your flexibility and patience this year as we navigate Catholic Schools Week.

Please see the updated schedule below:

Wednesday, February 3 - Celebrating Vocations

  • Children will receive their Catholic Schools Week T-shirts today. Thank you for emailing all of their sizes. When your child comes home, look on the back of the shirt. See all of the reasons why SVMS shines!
  • Students will write letters to our parish priests.
  • School Mass at noon. This will be reserved for several student representatives in grades 3-8 since space in the church is limited. All other students will watch Mass in their classrooms online. Unfortunately, parents cannot attend but can watch online at svmnj.org.

Thursday, February 4 - Celebrating Families/ Service Day *Crazy Sock Day

  • Service Day (rescheduled)
    Day of Service - All activities will be conducted in school.
    • Pre-K - Children will make Rosary bead bracelets.
    • K - Children will complete coloring pages for local nursing homes.
    • 1 & 2 Nourish NJ Speaker -Children will watch a virtual presentation on Nourish NJ, and children will write positive notes on hearts for people.
    • 3-Students will write notes on stars for Veterans.
    • 4- Children will make toys for Seeing Eye Dogs. *Students- please remind students to bring old t-shirts and scissors for this project.
    • 5- Fifth graders will write notes on paper badges for Madison, Chatham, Florham Park police officers.
    • 6-Family Promise-Children will write encouraging notes for a (newly homeless) family about to begin sheltering in a motel. Then, they will assemble Promise Packet goodie bags which will be given out at the Family Promise Drop-In Day Center.
    • 7-Father English Food Pantry -The students will watch (2) video clips about Catholic Charities Backpack Buddies and the Father English Food Pantry. They will write (3) Valentine’s Day notes in Spanish (with the help of Mrs. Basile) and then assemble Grab ‘n Go Snack Bags, which will be distributed to the homeless or to children/families.
    • 8- Covenant House Projects -Students will participate in interactive zooms with directors from CH; students will assemble toiletry bags which will be distributed to homeless youth.
      Holy Half Hour at 12:30 pm - Fr. George will conduct the Holy Half Hour in the church. All 8th graders will attend. (This will be live-streamed.) www.svmnj.org
  • Family Night - Pre-ordered Pizza Kits and salads (provided by Bunny’s Restaurant) can be picked up in the school parking lot starting at 5 pm. Please see Sign-Up Genius for time slots.
  • Family Virtual Trivia Night - This will begin around 7:15 pm and should last about 30 minutes or so. Several teachers have agreed to help host this fun, virtual event. Families can answer trivia questions, solve riddles, and participate in a home scavenger event. See Zoom Login Info below:

Friday, February 5 - Celebrating our Students and Faculty
*SVMS Spirit Day-Students can wear their SVMS Spirit wear (even SVMS pajama pants)

  • Faculty Breakfast provided by Hospitality Committee
  • 8:30 am School Rosary - Children will pray the Rosary together in their classrooms using provided Rosary beads.
  • Ice Cream Social - To honor the SVMS students, the children will be given their pre-selected choices of ice creams (Marino's Italian Ices, Tofutti Ice Cream Sandwiches, Popsicles). These will be distributed during the day on Friday.
