Let the Governor Know Catholic Education Has Your Support

Governor Murphy’s FY21 Budget Address is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25. The Governor’s proposed State Budget will contain funding proposals that affect your school and all Catholic schools in the Diocese of Paterson and the State of New Jersey. Your school and all of our Catholic schools use these State funds to support the educational services provided to your child.

We now have the opportunity to make our comments known to the Governor’s Office as to what our funding priorities are for Fiscal Year 2020-2021 before he gives his budget address. At a minimum what we need are the same level funding amounts as in the current State budget for technology, textbooks, security.

In addition, we are asking for the Governor to increase the transportation amount for each child from $1,000 to $1050! The issue of transportation cost may not directly affect you. However, many of our Catholic schools need busing to bring their students to their schools- advocating on behalf of all of our Catholic schools increases the volume of our voice.

Also, we are asking for an increase in Compensatory Education (remedial instruction in Reading, Language Arts, and Mathematics from $995.33 to $1,100 per eligible studentRemedial education is vital to those students who are eligible and require these services. If we are unable to adequately provide these services, these students will be at an extreme disadvantage when trying to learn.
