Flu or Cold?

January 10, 2020

Dear Parents,

This is to inform you that there has been a reported case of the flu in 2B and there have been several students absent from 2B the last 2 days.

It is often difficult to tell the difference between the common cold and the flu because the symptoms are often similar.  Both are caused by a virus, however both viruses differ, henceforth the different symptoms. The “tell-tale” sign is that flu symptoms are more intense/severe, while common cold/common viral symptoms tend to be milder.  Please take a look at the image below to assist in determining the difference between the flu and the common cold.

Flu V Cold

If you are unsure or have any concerns about whether or not your child has the flu, please take your child to their pediatrician.  As always the best prevention for any illness is hand washing, proper amounts of sleep, hydration, taking vitamins and getting the flu vaccine.

Best regards,

Renee Reilly, RN
