The SVMS Library & Information Skills program for early primary grades (K – 2) will focus on early literacy skills and reading appreciation for pre- and emergent-readers. Exposure to the written word is made available through a variety of media formats. Students will demonstrate active listening skills and responsible citizenship during library time.
In the intermediate grades (3 – 5), independent readers will be introduced to the organization of fiction and nonfiction sections of the library, as well as learning to identify and use call numbers to locate materials. Students will be introduced to different genres and reference materials.
In the Middle School (6 – 8), students will perfect their Information Literacy Skills through research and the use of digital information. The program focuses on students learning how to find, use, summarize, evaluate, create and communicate information effectively and ethically.
