Science

Grades 1 - 2 Science

The science curriculum at St. Vincent Martyr School follows the National Science Standards, the New Jersey's Core Curriculum Standards, and standards developed by the Diocese of Paterson, New Jersey. SVMS is also a participant in the S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiative. S.T.E.M. teaches independent innovation and all students to explore greater depths in science by utilizing skills taught in the program. The program teaches skills needed to become tomorrow's global leaders. Science and mathematics teachers in the SVMS Middle School are S.T.E.M. certified and receive continuing education and training in this area. Training is provided by Stevens Institute of Technology, Picatiny Arsenal, and the University of Arizona.

Grade 2 Science focuses on Life Science which includes the study of plants, animals, and fossils. Physical Science covers the study of matter, sound, heat, light, force, magnets, and electricity, while in Earth Science we study weather, seasons, and the solar system. In addition, we study the Human Body which includes nutrition and how to keep healthy.
