The nurturing of the moral and spiritual growth of every child is a major focus of
school life. Catholic/Christian principles in teaching and worship are emphasized.
Children are encouraged to apply Christian principles in their everyday lives through
their words and actions.
Our school welcomes children from all religions and ethnic backgrounds. All children
are included in daily religious instruction. Respect for all beliefs is fostered.
Christian community is nurtured through sharing liturgy, prayer, and service projects.
For children of the Catholic faith, sacramental preparation is offered for the
Sacrament of Holy Eucharist in the second grade, and for the Sacrament of Reconciliation
in grade two and up (based on the childs readiness).
Children in kindergarten through grade 6 attend the 8:30 a.m. liturgy in church every
Monday. Teachers are encouraged to request class liturgies and/or prayer services in their
classrooms throughout the year.
Spiritual meditation is offered seasonally through the courtesy of certified Spiritual
Directors within the parish. For this, the children are taken, one class at a time, to the
church for approximately thirty minutes.
Each class, kindergarten to grade six, is required to perform one service project per
semester. In addition, children are involved in such projects as Thanksgiving Baskets,
Christmas Gift Giving, and various other efforts that benefit the poor and needy.
This year's theme for Catholic Schools Week (January 25-31, 2009) is "Celebrate
Service". |
