Welcome to the SVMS Computer Lab!
In the computer lab, students
use age appropriate software to reinforce skills in math &
reading. The teacher works in conjunction with the classroom
teacher to create lessons which correspond to and enhance
the classroom curriculum.
Pre-K and Kindergarten
classes use a variety of content rich software to reinforce
letter recognition, sounds, numbers, as well as science
concepts & language arts. Kid Pix is the creativity software
they use to create many of the wonderful projects that they
bring home. They are introduced to the keyboard via Kid Keys
and begin learning about the parts of the computer.
1st through 3rd grades
use software applications & websites to reinforce skills &
concepts in math, language arts, science and social studies.
In first grade they create a “Word Family Book” using
Kidworks; a simple word
processing and graphics program. Their first project on
dinosaurs in 2nd grade is a web based research
project culminating in a written report on a dinosaur. 3rd
grade uses the internet to locate, download & print graphics
for reports, and complete a unit on mapping. Keyboarding is
introduced through Kid Typing. Finger placement & proper
ergonomics are stressed.
4th through 6th grade
refine their research & problem solving skills and learn how
to evaluate websites. Collaborative class projects
emphasize research & the use of office applications.
Students learn to use Excel, Access, Publisher, Power Point
as well as Word to create curriculum based projects and
meeting diocesan technology standards. Keyboarding is an
important part of the curriculum. Students are expected to
improve their typing skills to become more efficient at word
processing. The Mavis Beacon software program is used for
individual instruction. |
