Did you know that Mandarin Chinese is the #1 spoken language in the World? Have you ever considered learning Chinese or are you just curious about China, the people, culture and history? If so, please join us for fun-filled after-school enrichment class that will focus on basis Chinese language skills and Chinese Culture. Each week a different theme will be explored with learning activities that include Arts and Crafts, interactive language exercises, basic writing and possibly a Guest Artist. The year-end party will include making dumplings (if there are no food allergies in class), music and celebration.
Why start learning about Chinese Language and Culture now?
- Chinese is defined as a strategically important language by the U.S. State Department.
- An increasing number of a junior high schools and high schools (including Madison) offer Mandarin Chinese as part of the curriculum. However, language experts recommend learning Chinese at an earlier age as Chinese is based on a unique system of tones and pictographs.
- Foreign language enhances students’ cultural understanding – the Chinese language has a 5000 year history.
- Think differently, be challenged and have fun!
When: Mondays – March 1,8,15,22,29 and April 12,19,26. Class runs for a total of 8 weeks. No class on April 5, 2010 – SVMS is closed
Where: SVMS classroom – location to be announced
