Pre-K3

The Pre-K3 program provides a warm and loving environment in which children realize that school is a fun and happy place.  This environment fosters positive interaction with other children and adults.  Self esteem is enhanced through hands-on activities.  Play experiences enable the children to develop and learn in a way that is comfortable for them.  Flexibility with all activities allow for individual differences among children and yet predictable and structured to enable each child to feel secure.  Above all, each child is treated with honesty and respect.

Pre-K 4

The Pre K4 program provides a warm and loving environment for all the children.  This year the child becomes an explorer, a discoverer, a problem-solver, and an inventor.  Our goal is to help each child become a confident, inquisitive, and independent learner.  The classroom is organized to promote active learning and children are encouraged to think and talk about their discoveries and creations.  We provide a balance of child-directed and teacher-directed activities.  Each child develops the following intellectual/cognitive abilities:  numerics, literacy, scientific thinking, the Arts.  The program also continues the work accomplished in Pre K3 by reinforcing the social skills of sharing, conversation, listening, independence, conflict resolution, respect for others and working in a group.  Physical skills developed included fine motor and gross motor skills.

Kindergarten

Religion – The focus is on “God’s Gift to Us.”  The message in Kindergarten is that our lives are full of signs of God’s love.  God cares for us through His helpers:  our parents, family, teachers, and all those who help us grow.  When we study about our body and how to take care of it, we learn just how wonderfully we are made.  Through Baptism we become children of God.  The Church teaches us how to love like Jesus, our special friend and brother.

Language Arts – In Kindergarten students learn to understand and apply the knowledge of sounds, letters, and words.  They learn to become comfortable as readers by reading a variety of materials with fluency and comprehension.  They will learn to be comfortable as writers, speakers, and listeners.  The program uses a variety of methods to help the children achieve these goals.

Math – The Kindergarten student develops number sense and an ability to represent numbers in a variety of forms.  In addition they will develop spatial sense and an ability to use geometric properties and relationships, measurement, estimation, patterns, relationships, and functions.  They will discover how to represent these mathematical properties in real world situations.

Science – Students are introduced to living and non-living things and learn to distinguish similarities and differences within and between species.  They learn to describe and classify objects according to physical properties and learn to demonstrate the relationship between force and motion.  They learn to identify sources and behaviors of various forms of energy.

Social Studies – The students learn democratic citizenship in the United States, New Jersey, and their local communities.  They acquire geographical understanding through the study of maps, the environment, and society.
